Pennsylvania EMS Provider Foundation: A Night of Honor, Remembrance, and Inspiration

The Pennsylvania EMS Provider Foundation is a cornerstone in the emergency medical services community. Founded in 2007, the foundation has been steadfast in its commitment to ensuring public confidence in EMS, developing the next generation of EMS providers, and supporting the welfare of Pennsylvania EMS providers. One of the foundation's most significant annual events is the Stars of Life Awards Banquet, which I had the privilege of attending alongside Dr. Sanford Littwin, representing Innovative Public Safety (IPS).

There are a variety of ways to contribute to the mission of the foundation. One new way that individuals can contribute is by becoming a Systems Champion which I would encourage everyone to do if you are able to. More information can be found at https://www.aa-pa.org/foundation/individualdonation

The Stars of Life Awards Banquet took place on Sunday, September 10, 2023, in Harrisburg, PA.

The banquet serves as a platform to recognize outstanding EMS staff members who have gone above and beyond in their roles. These are individuals who have set an example for others to follow and have been exemplary representatives of EMS in the community.

The night was filled with inspirational stories, acknowledgments, and a strong sense of community. It was an honor to be in the presence of so many dedicated professionals who have made significant contributions to the field of emergency medical services. One of the standout moments of the evening was the phenomenal keynote address by Steven Wirth, which resonated with everyone in attendance.

Another cornerstone event organized by the foundation is the Pennsylvania EMS Memorial Bike Ride which took place September 9-11, 2023. This 3-day cycling event aims to honor and memorialize Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Service Providers who have died in the line of duty. Participants have the option to engage in a single day or all three days of the event, making it flexible for those with varying schedules.

Both the Stars of Life Awards Banquet and the Pennsylvania EMS Memorial Bike Ride serve as the primary fundraisers for the foundation. The foundation offers various sponsorship opportunities, including ticket purchases for the banquet and podium recognition, among others.

Dr. Sanford Littwin and I were on hand to represent Innovative Public Safety (IPS) at the Stars of Life Awards Banquet. Given IPS's focus on providing technology and operational consulting services to public safety customers, it was a natural fit for us to be part of an event that aligns so closely with our mission and values.

The Pennsylvania EMS Provider Foundation plays a pivotal role in supporting the EMS community in Pennsylvania. Events like the Stars of Life Awards Banquet and the Pennsylvania EMS Memorial Bike Ride not only serve as fundraisers but also as platforms for recognizing the hard work and dedication of EMS providers. Being a part of such an event was not only an honor but also a reaffirmation of the importance of community and collaboration in advancing public safety.

Finally on a personal note, I was able to attend an event with two of my personal mentors. It is rare that I find myself in a room with both Doug Garretson, and Alan Karelitz. At various times in my career I have held positions reporting directly to both of them, and they have always and without question treated me with respect and offered me the benefit of the doubt. I would not be where I am today without them, and I can never say thank you enough.
